The Austin Proper Hotel

July 5, 2020

HI! I’m Molly.

Here to encourage you on your own bold pursuit of intentional living as I live out my own. I’m passionate about running, spending time doing what I love and cheering others on to approach running with joy.

Last week, I did a mini staycation at the Austin Proper Hotel and I wanted to share my review!

I recently checked in at the Austin Proper Hotel, a beautiful luxury boutique hotel nestled into the most perfect spot in Downtown Austin. Glance out a window and you’ll see the gorgeous public library and Lady Bird Lake. Decide to go for a walk and you’ll pass restaurants and coffee shops, all within a mile. The location is so ideal for anyone new to the area or for someone looking to explore!

Underneath my mask, my jaw literally dropped when I walked inside of the hotel. Interior designer Kelly Wearstler used mixed textiles and patterns, vintage pieces and striking sculptures, to create a striking welcome upon entry. No corner has been left unnoticed from the tiniest of details and truly y’all, this hotel is BEAUTIFUL! And not in the “oh my gosh I don’t want to breathe it is so nice here.” More so in a way that you feel calmed and inspired while in the space.

I went in the middle of the week and there weren’t too many other guests. Everyone is required to wear a mask and because it wasn’t crowded, it was incredibly easy to stay six feet apart. I’m pretty sure no one was on my floor haha I never saw a soul up there! I went straight up to my room the first night and only left to grab food from a restaurant across the street haha! The king-sized bed was sooooo comfy omg. I miss it so much LOL. Room complete with a big TV, giant windows that overlook downtown, blackout curtains and a stunning bathroom stocked full of Aesop products to use. A complete dream!

The next day I still had work, so I camped out in probably the prettiest place I’ve ever done work in haha! Not a bad view at all. But, before we get into that. We’ve GOT to talk about the hotel restaurant, The Peacock. I don’t even know where to begin because I’m obsessed with everything about it (so much so, I went back the next morning before checking out). The DESIGN. MY GOSH. They have colorful, patterned tiles from floor to ceiling on one wall and I’ve never seen that before. The restaurant is also huge with tall ceilings, so it felt nice to be in an open, uncramped spot.

Now, the food….heavenly!! The Peacock is a mediterranean restaurant and I need to specify that because it might be unclear when you see what I ordered haha! I ordered their Challah french toast with Nutella on top and this was unlike any other french toast I’ve had. This bad boy was smothered in syrup, Nutella, banana and hazelnuts and was probably at least two and a half inches thick. It was just the right amount of squishy and firm. You can come here even without staying at the hotel, so do not miss out on what they have!!

Like I mentioned earlier, I worked a regular work day in their beautiful room downstairs. As soon as my day was up, I rushed off to the pool! It’s located on the fifth floor (as is a spa that’s coming soon!) and duh, it’s beautiful. It’s pretty normal sized for a hotel pool, but they have a lot of seating, including a few sections of cabanas. They also have a restaurant right by the pool, La Piscina, but it wasn’t open when I was there. So, I ordered poolside service from The Peacock again! I got their Wagyu Beef Burger and my goshhh, it was just as delicious as it sounded. The tzatziki sauce on it was phenomenal.

It was such a little luxury for me to be able to come because I never typically lounge by the pool reading for hours, nor do I watch TV, like ever, and I did that while eating dinner one night. I used the gym both mornings - which basically has all equipment ever in existence - and even had it all to myself one morning!

I can’t recommend staying at the Austin Proper Hotel enough obviously and hope you’ll look into staying here the next time you need a hotel in Austin because I know you’ll LOVE it!

Save for later:
