My Stay at Getaway House

October 15, 2019

HI! I’m Molly.

Here to encourage you on your own bold pursuit of intentional living as I live out my own. I’m passionate about running, spending time doing what I love and cheering others on to approach running with joy.

I want to share all about my stay at Getaway House and what my experience was like!

I’ve mentioned it several times in my newsletter, but this fall is crazy! I’m gone for six weekends in a row. When the opportunity came up to stay at Getaway House (just an hour and a half away from Dallas), I jumped at the opportunity to get away (hah, no pun intended) and relax before jumping into the crazy. Getaway House is essentially a widespread campsite of 99 acres with 40 tiny homes spread out. The site in Texas is located in LaRue, TX, (who knew such a place existed?!) an hour and a half east of Dallas. It is BEAUTIFUL out there and it’s an incredibly easy drive. We had zero issues finding it because of their perfectly placed signs.

We drove in early afternoon on a Tuesday and started to squeal as we passed all the tiny homes, which are named for grandparents. The ease of checking in and out is definitely something to note. They text you morning of your arrival with the name of your tiny home (ours was Andrew!) and give you the code to the home. We easily found our little home for the next 36 hours and were SCREAMINGGG at the cuteness.

We parked, walked the short gravel path to find an adorable picnic table, mini grill, fire pit and chairs outside the tiny home. But. The tiny home itself. I’m grinning ear-to-ear because it is so stinkin’ cute, y’all!! Screaming continued as we walked inside the home to find a giant window above the queen-sized bed overlooking the stunning nature outside, a red fridge, blue speckled plates, mugs and cups, and coffee table books on the shelf. The details inside were so well-thought out, even down to a “cell phone lockbox” so you can totally unplug.

They give you a map with good hikes and lakes in the area, but we decided to hike around the Getaway House area. We hiked for a solid five miles on both inclines and flat gravel paths, but all surrounded by the rich, bright blue skies and tall trees. We saw only a few other people total on our trip, but did see a fair amount of cars in front of a lot Getaway homes. We then proceeded to cook dinner with everything they provide for you! We brought ingredients to make chili, but didn’t need anything besides the actual food items because they have the pots and pans. They’re not huge, but we were able to cook all the chili between one skillet and one pot! Because we all care about sleep, I’ll share my thoughts on the bed. Not the most comfortable mattress, but not uncomfortable by any means. We were freezing when we were cooking, but then were sweating at night and we think that’s because the air wasn’t hitting us in bed. We slept solidly from nine p.m. until the sun rose the next morning! We did not shower (oops), but there are a shower and towels.

The weather was beautiful the next morning, and we had a very slow morning, reading, journaling, and goofing around! We packed up around 12:30 to venture off to a state park along the way back to Dallas. Checking out was just as simple as checking in, all we had to do was make sure the door was locked on our way out!

Overall, I’d HIGHLY recommend coming here for a little getaway. You don’t even feel like you’re in Texas and the stillness is extremely rejuvenating for the soul IMO. You can use my code MOLLYO25 for $25 off your first stay and I really encourage you to do it! Not even 48 hours away there left me feeling ready for my craziest time of year.

Save for later:
